Murals and Public Art
Early on in my art and design career I told myself I wanted to at least try to paint a mural. After designing a colorful, vinyl wall for a solar company in a new style, I filled out an application to paint a mural in downtown Provo. Little did I know I was going to be given the option of painting the side of a parking garage?!
One thing about me? I’m going to figure out how to do something. I studied and studied and one pinched nerve later painted my first mural. More work came in after this. It’s extremely hard and so much fun.
My first try at a larger scale wall was after a solar company said “hey, we don’t know what we want, but we want it to be good. And colorful.” I took this as an opportunity to try a new style. It ended up providing more opportunities for me in the long run!
2021
The following mural is located in Downtown Provo behind Station 22. In my application, I proposed a botanical style or the style above. They loved the vibrant color and shapes, so they handed me the side of a parking garage and I got to work. I’m not sure if they realized this was my first “real” mural, but I knew I could do it!
2022
I stayed in contact with Downtown Provo. I was so excited to participate in their efforts to cover the utility boxes downtown as well.
2024
I thought I was the mural journey was one and done, but I soon got a call from a mutual connection at IKEA working on their local community engagement projects. A local charter school had an 8th grade class that designed a mural and needed an artist to take their work and make it real. I took the job, (and scheduled with a chiropractor)!
They even had me join an assembly and ribbon cutting as a guest speaker.
2024
Last but certainly not least, Humankind Hair Salon! They were updating the salon to be a little more funky and fun.
